This was what we call a redeck. We came in and removed the old decking but left the framework in tact. After careful inspection of the framing, a few repairs were made and we were able to go back over the existing framing with new cedar decking. The only rebuild of the substructure was for the stairs. We almost always rebuild the stair, due to high traffic and safety concerns. After the decking and stairs were complete, we added cedar railing with aluminum ballusters. With the redeck option these homeowners were able to bring life back to a otherwise plain deck that had lost its appeal.
